A cheeky monitor lizard was spotted relaxing at the bottom of a family's back yard swimmig pool.

Footage shows the 5ft-long reptile appearing to enjoy the clear water of the pool in Bangkok, Thailand on August 26.

The creature was removed from the property in a gated housing estate by a helpful security guard.

Resident Namfon Malinee said: ‘An uninvited guest came to enjoy the water in our pool. It just helped itself and took a swim.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country, so their population thrives.
