Officials admire Welsh ambulance donated to Ukraine to aid in conflict with Russia
This footage shows the governor of the Mykolaiv region inspecting a Welsh ambulance given to Ukraine to aid them in their conflict with neighbouring Russia.
Vitalii Kim, the Governor of Ukraine's southern Mykolaiv Oblast region, was meeting representatives from the Global Empowerment Mission, an American disaster relief NGO that has been providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Kim can be seen in the footage inspecting the ambulance, which bears the inscription ‘Wales to Ukraine' on it and the Welsh flag.
Kim also reportedly met with the founder of the Global Empowerment Mission, Michael Capponi.
Other images also show Kim inspecting other supplies at the Global Empowerment Mission's facilities in the capital Kyiv.
The images were obtained from the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration on Sunday, September 4, along with a statement saying: ‘Vitaly Kim met with representatives of the American organization Global Empowerment Mission.
‘On Sunday, September 4, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaly Kim, visited the warehouse of the American organization GEM. There, the head of OVA met with the founder of GEM, Michael Capponi, the team of the organization and the Ukrainian partner of the Quality of Life Fund.
‘Also during the meeting, he inspected the storage warehouses and the humanitarian aid packaging line.
It should be noted that the GEM organization has already delivered humanitarian aid to Mykolaiv, but now it will be on a permanent basis.
‘Yes, today the partners handed over an ambulance and two trucks with groceries for families and moisture-resistant plywood.
‘Together to victory!'
On Monday, September 5, Governor Kim said in a statement: ‘The other day, there was a meeting with the true friends of the Mykolaiv Oblast - the American organization 'Global Empowerment Mission'.
‘I got to know the founder of GEM Michael Capponi, the team and their Ukrainian partners 'Life Quality Foundation'.
‘As a result, the following are going to Mykolaiv Oblast: one ambulance, one truck with groceries for families, one truck with moisture-resistant plywood.'
The Global Empowerment Mission said in a statement on Sunday, September 4: ‘Today Mykolaiv Governor [Vitalii Kim] visited our main [mission] Ukraine Hub in Kyiv.
‘The Governor picked up 2 full size GEM Bstrong trucks of humanitarian aid supplies and an ambulance for the region. Mykolaiv is once again at the epicenter of this war. Due to the latest Ukrainian offensive to liberate Kherson from Russian occupation, help to this region is critical. One of the trucks is necessary plywood to temporarily close in residences that lost their windows in the recent shelling.'
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 in what the Kremlin is still calling a ‘special military operation.'
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February and 6th September, Russia had lost about 50,150 personnel, 2,077 tanks, 4,484 armoured combat vehicles, 1,179 artillery units, 296 multiple launch rocket systems, 156 air defence systems, 236 warplanes, 207 helicopters, 876 drones, 209 cruise missiles, 15 warships, 3,305 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 109 units of special equipment.
Russia has claimed that its casualties have been much lower, but provides infrequent updates on its latest figures.
The UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said on Monday that the backup power line at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Europe's largest, has been disconnected to extinguish a fire.
Ukraine's state energy company Energoatom has said that four of the six UN mission members who went to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant have now left the site. Energoatom said that the two remaining IAEA experts would be staying at the plant on a permanent basis.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have said that they have repelled Russian offensives in eastern Ukraine and had disrupted Russian crossings near the Russian-occupied city of Kherson, in the country's south.
Kirill Stremousov, the head of the Russian authorities in Kherson, has said that plans for a ‘referendum' on whether to become part of the Russian Federation have been temporarily ‘paused'.
Russia has said that it will not resume supplying Europe with gas until the West lifts sanctions against Moscow. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin's spokesperson, said on Monday that the halt in gas supplies via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline was due to the sanctions.
A Moscow court has revoked independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta of its print media licence. Its editor-in-chief, Dmitry Muratov, said that it was ‘a political hit job, without the slightest legal basis' and that the newspaper would appeal the decision.
