This is the moment a shocked homeowner found a scorpion grappling with a centipede in his yard in Thailand.

Resident Ao Yodsawat found the many-legged pair locked in a deadly wrestling match in his garden in Nakhon Phanom province on August 23.

The creatures appeared to be in a stalemate, but the scorpion gains the upper hand when it jabs the centipede with its venomous stinger, causing its adversary to flee.

Ao said: 'I thought the fight looked really cool. I have never seen anything like it before.'

Centipedes are predatory arthropods that have segmented bodies. They typically hide under detritus but come out at night to hunt for small invertebrates.

Scorpions are arachnids, and are best known for their deadly stingers which inject venom into their victims. They usually eat insects and other invertebrates, but have also been known to prey on vertebrates such as mice.
