Not all heroes wear capes, right? Well, sometimes they come in the form of doctors, who are committed deeply to their profession and the work they do. In a similar incident, Dr Govind Nandakumar set an example when he ran almost three kilometres to reach his hospital for an important surgery after his car got stuck in a traffic jam in southern India's Karnataka.

The incident happened in the Bengaluru district when his car got stuck in the Sarjapur-Marathalli stretch in a traffic jam on August 30.

A gastroenterology surgeon at Manipal Hospitals, Nandakumar was slated to perform an emergency laparoscopic gallbladder surgery on a woman and was travelling to the hospital for the same, before getting stuck in the jam.

That is when he decided to do what a real-life hero would. Realising that he would be delayed if he stayed stuck in his car in the traffic jam, Nandakumar left his vehicle and instead opted to run as fast as he could to reach the hospital for the operation.

His effort bore fruit as he managed to get to the hospital to perform the surgery after running for around three kilometres.

His team had already administered anaesthesia to the patient and he instantly changed into this surgery uniform to perform the operation. The surgery eventually turned out to be a successful one and the patient was reportedly discharged later on.

"I commute every day from central Bangalore to Manipal Hospitals, Sarjapur, which is in the Southeast of Bangalore. I left home well in time for the surgery. My team was all set and prepared to perform the surgery as soon as I reached the hospital. Looking at the huge traffic, I decided to leave the car with the driver and ran towards the hospital without thinking twice," the doctor said.
