This is the terrifying moment a coffee shop collapsed as the ground gave way following severe rain in Thailand.

The chic Amazon Cafe's kitchen wall caved in with the loosened ground after at least four hours of being pounded by the freak weather in Nakhon Nayok province on September 12 evening.

A loud creaking sound was heard from the establishment before staff rushed out of their rooms to discover their workplace had crumbled.

CCTV footage shows a portion of the cafe's back kitchen caving in from the eroding ground.

Worker Non Taweechai, 25, who lived at the staff dormitory said: ‘I was resting with my child. I head a cracking sound so I came out to check and saw the shop's wall collapsed in front of myy eyes.'

No one was hurt in the incident but the collapse caused significant damage at the back of the cafe.

The worker Non added that the ground might have been weakened by a recent construction done in the area before the rain finally added too much pressue.

He said: ‘A construction agency dug a hole to create a drainage canal behind the shop. The rainwater was passing through that hole and weakened the soil.'

An investigation on the cause of the collapse is ongoing as concerned businesses in the area expressed they are worried about safety.

The incident came amid severe tropical storms that have been battering the country almost daily since the start of August - raising fears of chronic floods similar to those in 2011 in which at least 815 people died.

This year, Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts from May or June until November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.

This year, meteorologists have blamed climate change for the sustained heavy rain, which has been hitting the Thai capital and provinces around the country causing severe floods for several weeks.

Warnings of strong wind and storms were also issued for regions across the northeast, east, and south. Thailand's Center for Climate Change and Disaster claimed the coming months could see heavier, longer rainfalls, due to 'climate change'.

Local media reported that the country has this year seen 'an unusually sustained and persistent rainy season'.
