Hero neighbours rescue stray dog trapped in dirty canal for TWO DAYS
Heroic neighbours rescued a stray dog trapped in a dirty canal for two days.
Resident Steven Matunding spotted the crying Aspin pooch struggling to climb out of the steep ditch in Taguig City, Metro Manila, the Philippines, on the evening of September 10.
Heavy monsoon season rain from tropical storms had made the sides even more slippy and muddy than normal - leaving the dog stranded at the bottom.
The next day, the hapless creature was still figuring a way out but to no avail until the storm lashed the area. Worried that the water would rise and sweep away the pooch, Steven called his neighbours and local rescuers to help him save the animal.
Footage shows the Good Samaritan climbing down a ladder and setting up a cage with bait inside to befriend the frightened dog and lift him out of the canal on September 12.
Steven said: ‘I felt sorry for the dog. He was going round and round the creek looking for a way out, but he could not climb the wall.
‘Fortunately, some neighbours and rescuers helped us handle the dog.'
Weary and exhausted, the pooch - later named Creeky by his saviours - resisted the volunteers at first and even attempted to bite one of them.
However, the Creeky eventually warmed up and stepped inside the cage upon seeing the food.
The dog was then fed a meal and given fresh water before being taken to an animal shelter where he would live with other rescued dogs.
Animal lover Steve added: ‘There were a lot of people who extended their help. Creeky the dog is in good hands now.'
