A safari guide was stuck in a wild "roadblock" made up of a massive pride of 23 lions who stalked towards his jeep before all lying down.

Shaun Etsebeth was leading a private tour through South Africa’s Kruger National Park when his path was suddenly blocked by some of the four-legged locals.

Mesmerising footage shows a group of lions made up of males, females, young and old casually strolling down the tarmac in front of their vehicle.

Having forced Shaun to reverse far down the road, the pride then lay down in the middle of the highway leaving him to wait out their daytime snooze.

Shaun said: “I've never had a roadblock like this with these many lions in a pride, it was such a thrill at the time, I'm still in the bliss of what I witnessed.

“I’ve been doing this for the last 13 years and this moment will be in my heart forever.

“We counted around 23 lions at that stage. They were definitely in the same family pride.

“We didn't get past them at all, it wasn't possible, we had to back up for a long stretch until they decided to move off the road.

“I’ve always had my heart in wildlife. I've worked for a couple of wildlife lodges and over the years I've seen a lot, but this just showed that I haven't seen everything yet.”
