The first attendees to see the late Queen Elizabeth II lying in state in Westminster Hall spoke vividly and emotionally about their experience of being among the first members of the public to witness the fallen monarch's casket.
Some of the first mourners to have seen Queen Elizabeth II lying in state in Westminster Hall in central London have spoken of their experience.
One woman draped in the Union Jack said; “I was crying inside. It reminded me of when my mum died. I was choked. I was crying.”
One middle-aged man said: “That was something I didn’t expect, lost the plot Emotions I’ve never felt, probably close to my mum passing away. And that was a lot like saying goodbye to her again.
“The Guardsmen, the Beefeaters, the fact that this is so historic. I’ve never ever experienced that before. The moment I saw Her Majesty there, with the Guard of Honour … I really choked up. I can’t believe I’ve been so moved by that. It was so worth 27 hours, since 3 pm yesterday, waiting for that moment, not having [any] idea what it would be. If I could go round and join that queue I’d do it all again. It was magnificent.”
The Queen’s funeral takes place at Westminster Abbey on Monday.
