Residents in Northern Ireland also reported seeing the phenomenon at around 9 pm local time.
The UK Meteor Network said it has received reports and was determining whether the object was a meteor or space debris.
Meteors are pieces of space rock or dust that burn when they enter the Earth's atmosphere. They are then called meteorites once they hit the ground.
