There have been ongoing demonstrations in the country since the Indonesian government raised fuel prices by about 30%.

Workers, farmers, fishermen and teachers have also joined the dozens of demonstrations organised over the past week. People fear that a rise in fuel prices could trigger a wider inflation phenomenon.

President Joko Widodo claimed that the government had to hike fuel prices because Indonesia's energy subsidies tripled this year.
