Hundreds of floral tributes were left outside the British Consulate General in Hong Kong for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Footage from September 15 shows the vast amount of bouquets alongside several pictures of the late monarch.

Hong Kong was a British colony from 1841 to 1941 and again from 1945 to 1997.

At dawn on the 7th day since Queen Elizabeth II passed, flowers over the pavement outside the British Consulate in Admiralty, Hong Kong. Hong Kong, once a British Colony, has been handed back to China with sedition a crime under the new regime. As flowers and messages increase, so to do references to the Golden Era of British Rule. Such messages could be seen as seditious and Anti-China.
Posters and handwritten notes have included phrases like-‘Her Majesty The Queen. Thank you for protecting Hong Kong for 70 years and turning this small fishing village into a place with freedom, rule of law and integrity before 1997, and a Golden Age worth remembering. Good Old Days.’

For some, this is not mourning the Queen but mourning the loss of democracy in a subtle protest otherwise unseen in Hong Kong in the last few years following China’s introduction of the National security Law on the 30th June 2020.
