The Little Egret Egretta garzetta shown in this film had managed to capture an extremely large Gudgeon Gobio gobio when fishing in a small London park, many times the size of any previous specimen of this species than the photographer had seen being caught at this location, and also the biggest fish the photographer had seen being taken by a Little Egret. The size of the fish was calculated by comparing its dimensions with those of a Little Egret skull (there isn't much variation) and then measuring the image once it had been corrected to life size on a computer screen. The fish when fully extended was 14-15 cm in length and 3 cm in depth. This information was forwarded to ZSL as it may have been very close to the maximum size ever recorded for a Gudgeon in the UK. The action was mainly recorded with still photographs and some video and the prey took 2-3 minutes to be swallowed after being captured.
