Kite enthusiasts flew their colourful creations alongside Bangkok's Grand Palace during a lively kite festival in Thailand.

Fliers showed off their bird-shaped kites - ranging in design from plain colours to more elaborate patterns - during the Chula-Pakpao competition in Sanam Luang park on September 15.

Locals flocked to the public square in the city's historical centre after authorities allowed the venue to host Thailand's kite festival following years of strict measures to maintain cleanliness and decency.

Sanam Luang is a 74.5-rai open field in front of Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace in Bangkok, Thailand.
