Light Aircraft Crash at Sandown Airport
Emergency Services were called to a field at Sandown Airport to reports of a plane crash this morning (Saturday).

Crews were called to Sandown at around 10:25.

A 60 year old male, believed to be the pilot traveling on his own, has been taken to Southampton Hospital via the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

The injuries are serious, but not believed to be life threatening.

The male had exited the plane before it caught fire.

Black smoke could be seen across the airfield.

According to eyewitnesses, the light aircraft began to make a funny noise on takeoff before veering off to the left and crash landing into a nearby field.

The fire has been extinguished using foam.

The incident is now being investigated by the Air Accident Investigation Branch.
