A woman's husband undergoing amputation surgery in Mandya, India was allegedly given her husband's detached leg and told to "take care of it" in this shocking moment from September 6.

The woman named Bhagyamma alleges that the hospital staff asked for a bribe to dispose of the leg. When they found out she had no money, they wrapped the leg in a plastic sheet and gave it to her to dispose of herself. The incident took place at Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences.

Bhagyamma’s husband Prakash, a resident of Keelara village, was admitted for treatment as he was suffering from gangrene. A frightened Bhagyamma was seen crying in the hospital corridor holding the leg in this footage.

Crowds witnessing the gruesome scene took sympathy on Bhagyamma and began to take the hospital staff to task for this bizarre gesture.

Hospital director Dr. Mahendra said the staff had erred in handing the biomedical waste to the relative instead of disposing of it properly.
“They did not follow the procedure and I will take action on them,” the hospital director said.
