This is the incredible moment two massive rhinos clashed horn to horn in the middle of a mud pool in South Africa.

A 31-year-old head guide named Kyle Naude was leading a tour through the Manyoni private game reserve when he heard the sound of the bull pair fighting out of view.

After locating the animals, he captured amazing footage of the two 1400 kg beasts battling head-on deep in the dirt.

"They were two very big bulls and one was from another part of the park. The fight that we witnessed went on for at least 45 minutes", Naude explained.

As the black rhinos traded blows, mud was thrown through the air while the amped-up males huffed and puffed aggressively in each others' faces.

Naude said: "It was absolutely amazing! It was the first time in my 10 years of guiding that I have seen rhinos have a proper fight like that. I’ve seen them chase each other and males and females having a bit of an argument if you want to call it that, but to see two black rhinos fighting is a once-in-a-lifetime and special opportunity".

He believes that this was a territorial fight. "The bull from the other part of the park might have been chased away out of his territory and looking for a new one", he said.

"There was a fair amount of growling, huffing and puffing, which is what happens when two big animals fight like that".

Naude said that the fight ended with one rhino moving out of the water and walking over the dam wall out of sight leaving the other alone.

"That second rhino then noticed us and came charging, luckily veering off at the last minute and running away".

"At first we had a very brief sighting of them, we were watching some giraffes, and admiring the view of the mountains behind them.


"Suddenly we just heard some loud noises and out of the long grass we saw the one rhino was chasing the other one.


"I knew there was a dam nearby with some hippos in it and we ventured off there. At first we never saw the rhinos and were watching the hippo in the water then we started hearing the noises again.


"Moving around to the southern side of the dam we got a visual of them again, and they were fighting.


"They were two very big bulls and one was from another part of the park. The fight that we witnessed went on for at least 45 minutes.


"My guess it was more of a territorial fight and that the bull from the other part of the park might have been chased away out of his territory and looking for a new one."
