This is the amusing moment a wild monitor lizard climbed up a tree to escape a pack of fierce guard dogs.

The creature wandered inside a family's yard but unfortunately met the pooches in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Thailand on May 14.

Footage shows the furry pets ganging up on the reptile that clung on a branch to flee. The terrified lizard could also be seen pulling its tail up high.

House owner Wrin Punyanash said: ‘My dogs are so protective of our home. I felt sorry for the lizard and called them inside to let it out.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
