Kalawewa National Park is the national park where elephants can be seen the most among the parks in Sri Lanka. Last year, due to the rise in the water level of Kalawewa, the elephants living in the park were staying near the surrounding villages and due to the Alimins conflict, the life of the largest elephant in the region was also lost.
But as the water level of the lake has gone down, wild elephants have come to the Kalatawa National Park in herds to eat grass, wildlife officials said. Tourists have the opportunity to see close to 100 wild elephants in one herd and some beautiful elephants.
At present, local tourists visit the Kalatawewa National Park every day, according to Galkiriagama wildlife officials.
