A shopping mall collapsed after a magnitude 7.6 quake struck Mexico on Monday.

Footage shows the ceiling of the shopping centre partially collapsed, burying a gym in the port city of Manzanillo as people inside called for help on September 19.

The quake hit 37 kilometres southeast of Aquila town at 1 pm local time on Monday at a depth of 15 kilometres, the United States Geological Survey said.

Local authorities said at least two have been killed in Manzanillo. One of them was crushed by a department store roof, while another was found dead in a mall. Ten other people were reported injured in Colima and Michoacan states.

The disaster came as citizens marked the anniversaries of two other deadly quakes that struck on the same date - one in 2017 that killed at least 350, and another in 1985 that killed an estimated 10,000.
