This is the intense scene in Punta Cana, Higüey, Dominican Republic as Hurricane Fiona rolls through with heavy rains and winds, destroying structures and causing havoc on September 18.

"The winds got stronger and stronger, the rain got more ferocious.
We had about 2 hours sleep that night. The pure sound of the wind and rain was incredibly loud," said Jenna, the filmer of the clip who came on holiday from the UK.

"Next morning we opened the curtains on to the balcony, to find 2 inches of water on the balcony, bits of palm treem Braving it, we venture out to breakfast. There were areas of 6 inches of water that we had to wade through. We’d never experienced anything like this before, " Jenna told Newsflare.

"Due to all the carnage, our flight home was cancelled and honestly, we were pretty chuffed to be staying at the hotel for another night, even if the weather was still awful!"

I was on holiday in the Dominican Republic between 5th September and 19th September. In the 17th we heard about a hurricane being on its way to us. To be honest we didn’t think much of it and thought “yeah yeah, it’ll just be some strong winds, we’re from the UK and are used to it!”.
However, on the 18th, yes the winds were strong, yes it rained…. It wasn’t until all the bars in the hotel started closing that we thought, “oh man, this must be serious.”

Braving it, we ventured out to breakfast. There were areas of 6 inches of water that we had to wade through.
It was all quite exciting to be honest!
We’d never experienced anything like this before.
