An Australian Aboriginal flag was painted over a mural dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II in Syndey.

Footage from September 23 shows red, black, and yellow paint covering the late monarch's face.

The filmer told Newsflare: "A man who said he was in charge of the property claimed that the artist had not sought permission for the painting."

Several "abolish the monarch" protests were held across the country on Australia's day of mourning for the Queen.

A mural to the Queen by artist Stuart Sale at 33 Sydenham Road, Marrickville has been painted over with the Aboriginal flag. It is unclear whether the Aboriginal flag was painted by the artist himself or was vandalised. A man who said he was in charge of the property claimed that the artist had not sought permission for the painting.
