Mama leopard playing so beautifully with it's playful adolescent cub in the Maasai Mara, Kenya
We had been tracking this mother leopard for a few days in the Maasai Mara when we came across this amazingly beautiful scene of mother and fairly large cub playing, hugging and cuddling for ages! It was incredible to watch such a powerful predator act so gingerly with it's cub! However, what we may perceive as play is actually valuable hunting skills - we could see the cub trying to stalk the mother, hold her in a grip, scratch her, and try to suffocate her - these are all important life skills that a mother leopard must pass on to the cub in the short time (usually 1 year and 9 months) it spends with the cub!
