There was anger at the current Iranian regime and hope for change at a large rally in London’s Trafalgar Square on Saturday 24 September over the death of Mahsa Amini in Iranian police custody.

Mahsa Amini died after being detained by Iran’s feared morality police, allegedly for not wearing her hijab correctly and for trousers that were too tight under her outer garments.

Supporters say she was beaten to death though Iranian police claim it was of natural causes.

Her death has sparked protests across Iran and the world, against the strict theocratic government in Tehran.

The protesters in London had diverse backgrounds. Many were nationalists, with some royalists holding up pictures of the last Shah of Iran, while others were Kurdish, like Mahsa Amini herself, alongside liberal, feminist and even LGBTQ activists.
