Iain McDonald, 21, was making tea in the Mayukuyuku Bush Camp in Kafue National Park, Zambia, when he heard an almighty roar on the opposite side of a river.

Incredible footage shows the source of the noise being a two-and-a-half-meter-long crocodile screaming into the face of an otter who had bitten it on the tip of the tail.

“I heard what I thought might be a lion roaring on the opposite side of the river but to my surprise, it was a huge crocodile 'roaring' at an otter", said McDonald.

Unperturbed by the flailing monster trying to bite it, the courageous mammal attacked the crocodile again, this time biting its rival on the body.

McDonald said: “I was very confused. The otter was certainly playing with fire but looking back over the footage it seemed to be cunning. By launching attacks at the crocodile's tail, it avoided the sharp end".

The filmer thought that the otter had perhaps some young nearby and was trying to encourage the crocodile to move off.

“I can't imagine that it would risk its life for a bit of fun, but you never know", said the filmer.

After the interaction, the otter moved a few metres away and had a sip of water before scurrying off into the bush.

The crocodile stayed around for a little longer before drifting off into the river.
