Hundreds of protesters marched through the streets around the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan, where the state funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will be held today (September 27).

Demonstrators oppose the use of substantial state resources for Abe's funeral which is estimated to cost $11.4m. They also argue that state ceremonies have so far been reserved for members of the Imperial Family only.

Amid tight security, about 4,300 people, representatives from 218 foreign countries, regions, and international organizations will attend the funeral.

The former Prime Minister was murdered at an election rally in July.
