Sandbags are placed along roads in Bangkok today as officials prepare for the arrival of Typhoon Noru.

The storm - which has killed at least nine people and displaced thousands in the Philippines - is expected to bring heavy rain to northeast Thailand between September 27 and 29.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said officials had put together a 'weather war room' to monitor the storm.

The country's Meteorological Department chief said the typhoon will make landfall in central Vietnam before hitting Thailand early on Thursday morning.

Officials warned of floods and landslides as the storm is expected to bring around 100 millimetres of rain in regions already struggling with the deluge from the annual monsoon rainy season.
