South Florida is under a triple threat: tornado, tropical storm, and flood watches have been issued as Hurricane Ian is expected to hit the west coast of the Sunshine State on Wednesday.

Footage from Tuesday (September 27) in Delray Beach shows flooded roads now closed as hurricane preparedness becomes the major theme for potentially affected areas. Trees and powerlines sway in the windy rain.

Hurricane Ian's bands of torrential rain combined with king tide season and sea level rise is causing flooding in neighborhoods in South Florida. Low lying areas with poor drainage, especially those located along the Intracoastal Waterway, which is experiencing extra high tides due to king tide season -- when the alignment of the sun and moon create extra high tides in the fall -- are especially vulnerable. Coastal communities all across the US are spending billions of dollars to hold back the tides that are only getting higher due to sea level rise.
