A calf stuck in a muddy pond was rescued in Thailand.

The seven-month-old female juvenile cow was walking with its herd back to the farm when the bigger animals accidentally pushed it in Chonburi province, Thailand, on September 24.

It slid down the sludgy pit so his owner could not lift him out on his own. Rescuers were called to the scene with boats and ropes to save the creature.

Footage shows the volunteers wearing vests on a blue plastic lifeboat before floating across the water to retrieve the calf.

Farmer Daeng Kongklangdong, 59, said: ‘My husband herded cows in the field, and they were coming home around sunset. The baby cow was walking among the adults, but it was small, so it was pushed on the edge and fell to the water.'

The pond was 16ft-deep, but the calf was stuck on its muddy edge. However, the portion was reachable across the water, so the team used a boat.

After hours of being trapped, the animal was scared, so it tried to flee from the rescuers while they reached it.

Volunteers tied a rope around the animal's body and pulled it up on the boat to bring it to safe ground. After six hours, the weary and exhausted animal was saved.

Rescuer Bunlom Montrihan, 47, said: ‘The animal was strong-spirited. The water was gradually rising and was almost floating. We were relieved it was safe.'
