A picky emu dramatically gags whenever healthy foods like bananas and tomatoes are put in front of her, but she loves sweets.

Amanda Johnson has kept emus at home in Granbury, Texas, US, for six years, but one of her birds, Cera, is uniquely over the top when it comes to trying new tastes.

Hilarious footage shows Amanda, 30, handing four-year-old Cera a banana to bite, but as soon as she nibbles on it slightly with her beak, she recoils in horror and shakes her head in disgust.

Other clips show Cera barely even trying to taste foods including tomatoes, pickles, and oranges but all with the same theatrical disgusted response.

Amanda said: “Cera is very picky. I think it’s more to do with the smell of things. She really hated the pickle. My oldest male, Little Foot, likes most things I offer him. He is at least willing to try new things. Cera won’t even try them usually. I find it hilarious!".

Amanda added: “I can only speak for my own birds, but all emus seem to gag at things they don’t like, just not as dramatically as Cera does. Cera is so dramatic about it that we can’t help but just laugh at her. She’s done it for as long as I can remember, but we have just recently started videoing her reactions".

Amanda is now planning on testing new foods with her as people enjoy watching the videos she takes.

“Animals have always been a huge part of my life and I really enjoy getting to share them with people. We have had emus for about six years now. This is our second year hatching chicks and we ended up with 12 babies this year", Amanda said.
