This seaside Buddhist temple has been left abandoned for decades on a pier in Thailand after funding for its construction dried up.

The skeletal Djittabhawan Temple, with its rusty steel beams and graffitied concrete columns exposed to the salty sea air, sits inside a college complex of the same name in Chonburi's Pattaya City.

A small shrine with statues and figurines had also been set up in the half-finished building.

The ambitious project reportedly cost some 300 million THB (about 7.9 million USD) and was built by monks at the end of a 500-metre jetty extending into the sea back in 1972.

However, the project ate up more funds than expected, and it was eventually halted completely. Local laws have also reportedly inhibited the temple's revival as its construction over water was never approved by authorities.
