This is the dramatic moment terrified tourists clung to their seats as enormous tidal waves pounded a boat in the Philippines.

The holidaymakers were heading to a resort when they were met with severe weather off the coast of Dinagat Islands on September 25 afternoon.

While the vessel swayed with the rough waters, the frantic travellers stayed on their seats during the tense incident.

Footage shows the tourists on orange life vests holding on to their seats as freak currents hit their boat.

Tourist Ivan Siangco said: ‘We rode the fast craft to reach the island. It was not raining but the wind was too strong. When we were away from the port we were hit by heavy tides. It was so scary.'

No one was hurt in the incident and the vessel did not sustain damage. However, the following trips were cancelled for safety reasons.
