West Papua National Liberation Army Attacks 14 Trans Papua Road Workers, 4 Dead Workers, 1 Seriously Injured and 1 Missing Person

Attacks on trans-West Papua road workers again occurred in a village in Indonesia, precisely in the village of Mayerga, North Maskona District, Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua Province, Thursday (29/9/2022). The West Papua National Liberation Army group, Sorong Raya Regional War IV Command, claimed responsibility for the attack. At least four workers are reported to have died. One worker was seriously injured and another female, who is suspected to be the wife of one of the workers, was reported missing and her whereabouts are unknown.

Joint forces from the Indonesian Armed Forces and Police led by the Teluk Bintuni Police Chief AKBP Junov Siregar on Friday (30/9/2022) managed to reach the location of the attack and managed to evacuate four workers who died.

Teluk Bintuni Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police, Junov Siregar said his party had succeeded in evacuating four people who died at the scene and one person was seriously injured. Security forces also managed to evacuate nine other workers who survived the deadly attack.

"We from the joint military and police officers managed to evacuate four victims who died at the crime scene and one person was seriously injured, including nine West Papuan trans road workers who survived, we also managed to evacuate to the capital city of Teluk Bintuni Regency," said Teluk Bintuni Police Chief AKBP Junov Siregar, Friday (30/9/2022) night.

After being evacuated, all victims were immediately taken to the Teluk Bintuni Regency General Hospital.

According to Junov, of the four victims who died, two of them were found in a vicious condition where after being killed by the perpetrators, they were immediately burned with a number of company vehicles used by the victims.

"Of the four victims who died, we found two of them charred. They were burned along with a number of company-owned vehicles used by workers for road construction in the area. In addition, the bodies of the deceased victims were also found with gun wounds. sharp actions carried out by the perpetrators," Junov said.

Junov is grateful that the evacuation process for the victims went safely and all the victims are currently at the local hospital for autopsies on four bodies and treatment for one victim who suffered serious injuries.

"Praise God, Alhamdulillah, the evacuation process for all the victims went safely. All victims are currently at the Teluk Bintuni Regency Hospital. Four bodies will be autopsied and one survivor who suffered serious injuries will receive medical treatment by hospital doctors. Meanwhile 9 survivors, the police will help with their psychological examination by presenting psychologists," Junov explained.

Of all the victims of the attack, according to Junov, there is still one person who has not been found where the missing victim is not yet known. The missing victim is a female named Reva, aged 28. The victim is suspected to be the wife of one of the workers. Currently, the joint forces of the Indonesian Army and Police are still searching for the missing victims.

The local police have also pocketed the names of the perpetrators of the attack on trans-West Papua road workers where the police will hunt down the perpetrators.

The security and public order situation in Teluk Bintuni Regency after the brutal attack carried out by the West Papua National Liberation Army against a number of trans-West Papua road workers, according to Junov, is still safe and conducive. Community activities continue as usual.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Teluk Bintuni, Petrus Kasihiw, strongly condemned the barbaric actions carried out by the West Papua National Liberation Army which carried out deadly attacks on civilians.

Petrus said that this seriously violated the value of human rights. Petrus asked the Indonesian Police and Army to take firm action against the perpetrators of the massacre in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

"This really hurts our hearts, the actions of the perpetrators are very contrary to humanitarian attitudes and have violated human rights. The barbaric actions of the perpetrators have seriously injured the human values ​​that we have upheld so far. I ask the Indonesian Police and Army to immediately take firm action against the perpetrators of the attack in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in Indonesia," he said.

After being buried at the Teluk Bintuni Regency General Hospital, the four bodies will be dispatched on Saturday (1/10/2022) to their respective hometowns, including Makassar, South Sulawesi and Manado, North Sulawesi.

Meanwhile, the survivors and the injured are still receiving medical treatment and they will then be questioned as witness witnesses in the incident by the local police.
