A Buddhist temple roof collapsed when a pigeon's nest weighed down by days of rainwater crashed through the panels in Thailand.

CCTV footage shows a portion of the zinc roofing tiles collapsing in front of a Buddha statue shrine inside the Nong Yo Samakkhi Temple in Nakhon Sawan province on October 1.

Abbot Piya Piyathammo said he was outside the temple at the time when he received a call from a villager informing him of a loud crash inside the pavilion while no one was inside.

When he arrived at the house of worship, he found pieces of tile scattered on the floor, along with leaves, tree branches, and a dead pigeon. The debris crashed just one metre away from a Buddha statue, with parts of the bird's nest poking out from the hole in the ceiling 10 metres above.

It is believed that weeklong continuous rains flooded the pigeon's nest, causing the water to build up and penetrate the ceiling panels.

Piya said: 'It was lucky that villagers don't pray in this part of the temple so no one was injured.'

He added that he would ask residents for help in repairing the damaged structure.

The incident comes days after Noru battered northern Thailand with heavy rain and wind.

Noru made landfall in Vietnam on Wednesday and has weakened to a tropical depression as it moved across Thailand on Thursday, September 29.

One person in Thailand's Sisaket province has died after powerful winds knocked a tree onto a pickup truck, injuring two others inside.

In the Philippines, where Noru first struck, at least 10 people have been killed and an estimated 50,000 displaced by the severe weather.
