A huge avalanche on the world’s eighth tallest mountain destroyed six camps and 30 tents in seconds.

Tashi Lhakpa Sherpa was leading an expedition of more than 100 climbers on Mount Manaslu when the avalanche hit on October 2 at 9.37am.

Dramatic footage shows climbers sprinting towards higher ground in the camp as the wall of snow hurtling down the 8163-metre peak in the Himalayas, Nepal.

Fortunately no members of Tashi’s expedition injured on Mount Manaslu, which claimed lives last week.

Tashi, who runs 14 Peaks Expeditions, said: “Luckily the avalanche didn't cause any casualties, it just carried away our 10 basecamp member sleeping tents.

“When the avalanche came down from the peak, at first we didn't take it seriously but gradually it started to cover the camp that was nearby.

“At that moment I remembered the earthquake of 2015 when I was in Everest base camp where 17 people died.

“At the same moment I was worried if the same type of event would take place in Manaslu basecamp as well.

“This season the weather has not been so good. Lots of other small avalanches have occurred during our one month stay in basecamp.

“After the avalanche, more than 30 tents were destroyed in six different camps. The company promotion flags that were decorated around the camp area were destroyed.

“The ceremonial place with prayer flags was destroyed due to the snow pressure. The camp was full of snow everywhere.”
