A little girl was rescued after her pink rubber 'Crocs' were stuck in a shopping mall escalator in the Philippines.

The toddler stood on the moving staircase with her mother when her pink slippers designed like the distinctive rubber Crocs clogs pinched between the steps in General Santos city on September 29.

She cried for help as the structure slowly ate through the rubber footwear and staff immediately turned off the machine to save her.

Footage shows the terrified youngster doing her best to calm down while a security guard held her and an engineering staff tinkered on the escalator to remove her feet.

Shocked mallgoer Christian Cayanong said: ‘I believe it was the fault of her sandals. I hope parents will be more careful in the escalator if they choose it for their children. It's too dangerous.'

The girl's mum watched as staff rescued their daughter and scared onlookers gathered around them.

Staff quickly responded so the child was not seriously hurt. However the escalator's fail safe was activated when the slippers rubber jammed so it took them a while before the girl was removed.

After half an hour, the girl's slippers was removed and she was reunited with her mum. An investigation was launched by mall admins and apologised to the girl's parents for the incident.

She was taken to a clinic to treat her wounds as her skin had been scraped from the incident.
