Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that four separatist regions of Ukraine will be allowed to "vote" on their fate as the annexation draws wide international condemnation.

Footage supplied by the Ukrainian army pool emerging from Kharkiv on Tuesday (October 4) shows victorious Ukrainian forces liberating areas from Russian troops and hoisting the national flag of Ukraine.

Some of the regions reportedly back in Ukrainian hands include Borovskaya Andreevka, Borovaya, and Boguslavka, all in the Kharkiv region as well as the Kherson region's Novopetrivka, Staroselie, and Davidov Brod.

This further confounds Putin's plan to incorporate the regions as the borders are in constant flux.

Putin is "likely" to sign laws to incorporate four Ukrainian territories into Russia during the course of the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States — the G7 members — and the European Union said they would never recognize Russian sovereignty over the regions and vowed to “impose further economic costs on Russia.”

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are actively working: Ukrainian flags are increasingly raised in Kharkiv and Kherson regions
