At least three students died after a wall collapsed at MTsN 19 School in Jakarta, Indonesia, today (October 6). The wall fell after heavy rains hit the city and caused severe floods.

Dramatic footage shows scared and screaming students looking down from the upper floor of the school as rain pours down. Young people can be seen trying to climb the building to seek shelter.

The collapse of the wall occurred at approximately 2.50 pm, Western Indonesian Time.

Multazam Lisendra, a police chief, told broadcaster Kompas TV that the cause of the incident needs to be investigated further, but they assume that the near overflowing river added pressure to the already precarious situation.

Many students were injured. All victims have been taken to Prikasih Hospital.

Based on information compiled from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), after heavy rains hit Jakarta, a wall collapsed at the 19th MTsN School Building on Thursday (6/10) at 14:50 WIB on Jl. Pinang Kalijati No.1 RT.08/09, Kel. Pumpkin Cottage, Kec. Cilandak, South Jakarta.

The incident began when heavy rains caused the water from the sewers to overflow, and inundated the school area of ​​MTsN 19. Several students who were playing in the school garden area were hit by a falling wall, because they were unable to withstand the overflowing water (not a collapsed classroom wall).

3 students were declared dead and one student was injured.

Currently, all victims have been taken to Prikasih Hospital, for further treatment.
