An American tourist attacked locals in a drunken rampage before being arrested in Thailand.

The holidaymaker, named by police as 'Andigo', 45, was reportedly caught kicking trash bins and destroying property along a street before residents confronted him in Nakhon Si Thammarat province on October 5 afternoon.

As he was about to smash a parked pickup truck with a brick he found on a ditch, a resident shouted ‘No' at him to which he responded ‘Shut up! You shut the f*** up!'

The foreigner, who was wearing a blue shirt, pants, and a dog tag necklace, reportedly went on cursing at locals and damaging five houses, a car, and a scooter before police responded in the area to arrest him.

Car owner Soontorn Chumchoo said: 'I saw this man strolling along the streets, kicking every trash can and damaging whatever property. He even threatened four other houses before going on a rampage at us. He smelled strongly of whiskey.'

Despite being asked to leave, the American hit the vehicle twice with the hard object as the worried female car owner followed him.

After scaring the car owner away, he pushed a parked scooter and shouted ‘don't touch me' to a concerned resident who tried to pull him off the two-wheeler.

Soon after, two police trucks arrived, and at least eight officers used hooked sticks to subdue the American tourist.

Police Colonel Boonchuen Lim Prachuappong, superintendent of the Khanom police station, said: ‘The foreigner is a U.S. citizen who entered the country with a one-month tourist visa.'

Officers discovered that he had been partying on 40 per cent distilled rice wine for the last three days before he burst into a rampage.

Upon being questioned, he claimed he was angry ‘because the vehicle had been following him for days.'

When notified of his possible charges, police said Andigo only responded, 'I have no money.'

Police Colonel Boonchuen Lim Prachuappong added: ‘We have now contacted the Thai Police Immigration Bureau of his previous behaviour, as well as the U.S. Embassy Bangkok to alert them of the legal procedures.'
