A tiny snake shocked a motorcycle rider when it popped out of her scooter's handlebars while she was driving.

The string-like serpent emerged next to the vehicle's grips, jolting motorist Maw, 30, as she was leaving a hospital in Songkhla province, Thailand on October 5.

Despite its small size, the reptile flicked its tongue menacingly at the woman, prompting her and her passenger to hop off the two-wheeler and call animal control.

The volunteers arrived after receiving Maw's report, but they could not locate the juvenile snake, which had retreated into an out-of-reach space inside the scooter.

To flush it out, they sprayed the scooter's nooks and crannies with insecticide.

The chemicals appeared to have irritated the snake as it emerged a few minutes later, scurrying away from the officers along a water-filled gutter.

However, the animal did not make it very far with rescuers quickly foiling its escape attempt. They sealed it inside a plastic bottle to later be released into the wild.

Maw said: ‘It was so close to my left hand, and I have no knowledge about snakes. I was afraid it could kill me, so I parked my motorcycle.

'It turns out the snake was not venomous. I felt relieved after the volunteers removed it from my vehicle.'
