On the occasion of the Dussehra festival, the stick fight in Kurnool district's Devaragattu turned bloody once again . At least 70 people were injured in Banni Utsavam , also called as Karrala Samaram . As part of this festival in which people fight with sticks , it's a traditional ritual held between group of villagers with the winning group taking hold of the idols and taking them in a procession to their respective village .it's is believed that the village which prevails in this fight will enjoy a good agriculture yield that year .
Despite ban was imposed by court on this ritual in 2008 the ritual had continued to be held over the years, . Over 50,000 people from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka thronged Devaragattu to witness the festival. As part of the celebrations, about 6000 people fought with sticks. Every year people are injured in such type of festivity.
The injured devotees were treated at a temporary hospital set up on the spot.
