The ruins of a 900-year-old Buddhist temple were submerged in floods after Typhoon Noru ravaged Thailand.

The Phra Kho pagoda in Nakhon Ratchasima province was surrounded by a 3ft-high deluge after heavy rain battered the region this week.

Nearby rivers burst their banks sending water spilling across nearby fields and homes.

Footage shows the old pagoda, which used to be part of a beautiful temple complex, under dirty water on October 6.

Local official Chun Khwangkrathok said: ‘Aside from the pagoda, more than 60 houses as well as livestock such as ducks, chickens, and cows on farmland were affected by the flood.'

The water is expected to recede after three days if the weather improves.

Heavy rain has been battering large parts of Thailand for the last three months. The torrential weather was compounded by Typhoon Noru, which brought severe deluges to the northeast region causing floods and overflowing rivers.
