Masked thieves were filmed stealing a Mercedes by pressing a cable to a house wall as a spate of high-end car thefts swept a small town in one night. The theft happened in just three minutes and it was one of four expensive cars stolen in the small town, Bushey, Hertfordshire, that night (Sept 22/23). Eerie CCTV footage shows a masked hooded figure carrying a backpack hiding behind one of the four other cars in the driveway before approaching the house around 2.45am. The thief slowly walks up across the gravel drive holding a long cable-like device linked to the backpack and holds it to the wall of the house. In seconds the Mercedes' lights switch on. The thief stands in the driveway watching the car for around 30 seconds as an accomplice dressed in dark clothing tries to enter it. The lights switch off and the hooded person returns to put the wire on the house again, after 20 seconds the car beams rapidly flash on and off possibly indicating a short circuit. Lights turn fully on and the pricey car is immediately reversed out of the driveway, illuminating the other parked vehicles, and drives off down the residential suburban street. The hooded figure holding the wire calmly walks off behind a hedge. CCTV footage captures three men over the course of the theft.
