This is the heroic moment a quick-thinking resident flagged down a speeding van after seeing a black pet cat perched precariously on its roof.

Kullanid Kangkamano, 39, signalled for the vehicle to stop when she noticed the moggy sitting atop it outside her home in Songkhla province in southern Thailand on October 1.

She raced towards the street, waving her hands frantically to inform the driver that his pet had hitched a ride on the van.

Kullanid said: 'It was at 6:40 am and I was about to ride my motorcycle and drop my son off at school. When I turned around, I noticed this cat and had to ask the van to stop.

'The cat then ran back the way the van had come from.'

The feline named Cha-Auay had been snoozing on its roof when neighbor Sa-ard Lhangwah, 52, drove off to work.

He said: 'I was on my way to start my shift at the Hat Yai transport station, but I didn't notice the cat until a woman stopped me.

'If she hadn't done it, it could jumped down anywhere and become lost or even worse, been hurt.'

Cha-Auay has now been reunited with its owner.
