A bizarre chicken with a 'rhino horn' on its head has become a good luck charm for superstitious villagers in Thailand.

The one-legged gamecock named Tong had grown a spur just above its beak, baffling the locals in Ratchaburi province.

Curious residents, believing the strange protrusion is a lucky omen, have bought lottery tickets based on Tong's age and physical measurements to try their luck.

Despite its fearsome appearance, the five-year-old rooster has a gentle temperament and has never attacked anyone, its owners said.

Owners Noppawan Srichanfuea, 50, and Wandee Srichanfuea, 78, added that a previous spur had sprouted on its head around three years ago, but it had broken off. However, a new one grew in its place, much to their shock.

Noppawan said: 'We thought the horn would never grow back anymore, but we were surprised when it did.

'I took photos and sent them to my friends. They were amazed and said they had never seen a rooster with a horn before.'

She added that people have started contacting her after photos of Tong spread on social media.

She said: 'There are many interested buyers, but I haven't decided to sell Tong yet.'
