Residents baffled by rain pouring on one side of road while the rest stays dry
Strange weather confused residents as rain poured on one side of a mountain road while the other half stayed dry.
Maike Bagaan was on his motorcycle when he noticed the heavy storm approaching in Davao province, the Philippines on August 19.
He pulled over next to a convenience store, hoping to let it pass, but he was baffled when the downpour fell on only one area of the road.
Footage shows the bizarre weather phenomenon battering one side of the street while leaving the rest dry.
Maike said: ‘It was the first time I have seen something like that. It looked like a typhoon a few steps away from us, but it was dry where I stood.'
Meteorologists said the bizarre scene was caused by a rare weather phenomenon called rain shaft, where the downpour is concentrated on a relatively small area which could be driven by front, upper-level disturbance, or terrain, among other things.
