Flash floods hit a local market after heavy rain at the Thai-Myanmar border.

Muddy torrents flooded vendor's stalls after the water flowed over the Mae Sai river embankment in Chiang Rai province on October 9.

Footage shows the brown, knee-deep deluge gushing into shops. Merchants had to store their products in more elevated areas to keep them from being swept away.

Authorities said the water rose by up to 50 centimetres overnight, adding they have placed sandbags along the Mae Sai river to stem the flooding.

Mae Sai district governor Narongpon Kidarn said: 'Our team has been driving around the district on a truck to warn the residents of flood early.

'The villagers are also very proactive at preemptively storing their things, so this year's flood did not cause as much damage as previous years.'

The locals cleaned up the muddy aftermath after the flood had receded. No injuries or deaths were reported.
