Two stray kittens were rescued from a canal after a storm in Thailand.

The felines were heard crying by passing locals in the morning on October 9 after heavy rain battered their village the night before in Chonburi province.

While looking for the kittens crying, the residents reached a flooded creek with thick foliage growing until they spotted the creatures.

Footage shows the locals searching for the kittens on the water. Another clip showed the wet felines resting on a scooter with blankets draped over their backs.

Resident Kaofang said: ‘We were walking across the road when we heard the kittens. Some motorcycle riders stopped by to help. It was surrounded by forest and there is always water in this creek after it rained.'

The locals had difficulty taking the kittens off the water because of the plants that covered it but after half an hour, the kittens were scooped out of the water.

Kaofang added: ‘We will take care of these kittens. We were relieved they did not drown.'
