Rescuers evacuated bedridden patients as water flooded their homes after heavy rain in central Thailand.

Volunteers and hospital workers transferred two incapacitated pensioners to a nearby hospital when the deluge submerged their houses in Ang Thong province on October 8.

Diligent staff carried grandmother Poon, 73, across the high flood to an ambulance as she was in a catatonic state and could not respond to them.

They also lifted patient Prasert Thanachot, 63, to safety, being careful not to jolt her oxygen supply which she uses for therapy.

Rescue worker Udom Cham-panya said: ‘The transport must be carefully done for the safety of the patient and the one who is giving oxygen.

‘The oxygen level has also been adjusted to 92 percent in order to prevent her from experiencing shock.'

Both Poon and Prasert arrived safely at the hospital, where they will stay until the floods subside.

Ang Thong officials said the water level at the local reservoir has reached 9.5 metres - nearing its holding capacity of 10 metres.
