An aggressive carabao escaped a slaughterhouse and attacked locals in the Philippines.

The female buffalo was being herded inside the facility when it went berserk and pounced on the butcher in Cavity, the Philippines, on October 1.

It then snapped out of its ropes and ran towards the road, where it charged on motorists damaging six vehicles.

Footage shows the carabao holding traffic on a busy road while striking cars and a tuk-tuk.

Trece Martires City Police Station chief Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Asnan said: ‘We did not have any choice, rather than letting it harm people or damage more property.'

The creature rammed three cars, a van, a utility vehicle, and a tuktuk while injuring the butcher.

Cops arrived on the scene and fired bullets at the animal until it was dead.

Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Asnan added they didn't have rodeo experts in the area so they needed to act fast to control the situation.

He said: ‘We might be criticised by animal welfare advocates, but we do not have trained rodeo experts who can catch and pull the carabao. And we had to act fast. It was difficult, the carabao was big, it was like a bull with big horns.'

The carabao was taken back to the slaughterhouse while its owner Renz Canlas promised to pay for the damages and apologised to the drivers.
