Families bid their final goodbyes as the victims of a barbaric massacre at a daycare centre were laid to rest in Thailand.

Hundreds of grieving mourners led by monks held a funeral procession for the deceased as they marched towards the cremation site in Nong Bua Lamphu province on October 11.

The coffins were each laid on brick furnaces, with relatives and officials placing portraits, toys, and flowers on top.

The family members and onlookers were later guided away as the pyres were doused with fuel and lit up at 6:30 pm local time.

Drug-addled former policeman Panya Khamrab, 34, had started his murderous rampage at a childcare centre in the Uthai Sawan district.

He killed at least 36 people - including 24 young children aged between two and four - and injured 12 others before turning the gun on himself.

The bloody incident is said to be the deadliest mass shooting by a single perpetrator in Thailand's history.
